Ok, so there is a woman (and of course she is in Texas, because where else would this happen), and she is actually paying someone to get her a job, which doesn’t really sound all bad if you’re just like “F it. I give. Whatever. Someone else take over, I can’t handle it anymore,” until you realize that there is no way this is going to turn out well. Who wants to hire someone that paid someone money to hook her up? I understand that’s generally how Chicago politics works, but for REAL jobs, I don’t think it works this way. Listen I know it’s rough out there. I’m right there with you, however, it is worse, it appears for older folks, and sure maybe that’s why this woman is all, “F it.”

Hey, you in the mood for some depressing articles? I know I am. It seems the New York Times has some sort of agenda to keep unemployed people perfecting their noose-knots.

And while it’s true, these stories are simply terrifying, there’s some comfort to be found here: it’s not personal. What has happened to the marketplace, jobmarket, economy, dumptruckofdespair, workhole, cubicleopportunities—not our faults. Sure, if we’re credit card holders or whatever, we can say we had something to do with the way things are. But we didn’t create this. It isn’t personal when we don’t get calls back. This is the first time in my life that I have applied for jobs and didn’t get them. It’s not personal. I don’t suddenly suck (do I?), it’s just where we’re at.

If you are comfortable with the person who is rejecting you for a job, try to get some feedback. Like, did you not get the job because you just didn’t have this one super important skill, or was your bra strap on fire the whole time?
